Morocco offers an ideal destination for those seeking winter sun, and Agadir pleasantly surprised me as an alternative to the popular city of Marrakech. Situated on the southern coast, Agadir provides a cheaper and less crowded option, perfect for enjoying the Moroccan sunshine. Its mild climate throughout the year makes it an excellent escape from the winter chill. With its beautiful sandy beaches stretching along the coastline, Agadir offers a relaxed and affordable experience. The city centre boasts modern amenities including beach front hotels, restaurants, and shops. Exploring the local markets (souks), savouring Moroccan cuisine, and indulging in spas and hammams are among the activities you can enjoy.

If you’re feeling adventurous and want a bit more of a local experience, you can venture out to the surfer beach towns of Tamraght and Taghazout. Tamraght offers an authentic experience, while Taghazout is more developed and provides a wide range of surf school hostels, cafes, and restaurants.
If you’re a surfing pro or interested in learning to surf, both Tamraght and Taghazout offer ample opportunities. You can find surf schools and experienced instructors who can guide you through the basics or help you improve your skills. Taghazout, in particular, has established itself as a hub for surfers, with a vibrant surf culture and a diverse range of accommodations to choose from. Whether you prefer a budget-friendly hostel or a comfortable hotel, you’ll find options that cater to various budgets and preferences.
Aside from surfing, these beach towns allow you to immerse yourself in the local atmosphere. You can explore the narrow streets, interact with friendly locals, and sample delicious Moroccan cuisine at the numerous cafes and restaurants. Additionally, the coastal scenery provides a picturesque backdrop for relaxing strolls along the beach.

- You will also find several modern hotels along the beachfront in Agadir city centre.
